Boost SEO with product reviews

There is a growing trend for social media marketing as some businesses turn to sites like Facebook and Twitter to promote their brands and services.

However, one commentator has claimed that the "humble" product review can be just as effective at determining consumers' reaction - which, in turn, could boost search engine optimisation (SEO) and web traffic.

In an article for Advertising Age, Abbey Klaassen said such reviews allow firms to monitor public reaction to their products and make adjustments and that companies from large, international organisations to niche retailers were taking this course of action.

"Reviews are growing in importance to marketers struggling to figure out how to turn social media conversations into insights that directly affect sales," she added.

Ms Klaassen noted that reviews were valuable, whether they were good or bad.

One example she gave of reviews being utilised successfully was Samsung, which after monitoring consumer reviews complaining that its speakers on its flat-panel TV sets made them too wide to fit into their television cabinets, altered the sets so the speakers were hidden underneath.

Guy Kawaski, in an article for bMighty, recently claimed that one thing online marketers should not do is make it a requirement to sign up for web content, as firms should attract consumers first.
