Google has unveiled its AdSense beta for Mobile Applications in its official Mobile Blog.
Susan Wojcicki, vice-president of product management at the search engine firm, said it was clear that smartphones had been "revolutionising" people's everyday lives.
And as a result of the lower cost of the handsets, teamed with faster network speeds, people were frequently turning to their mobiles for their online use, rather than the computer, in news which could have a positive impact on search engine optimisation campaigns.
"Advertisers are looking for ways to reach potential customers when they are engaged with mobile content and application developers are looking for ways to show the best ads to their users," Ms Wojcicki said upon announcing the launch.
She added that the AdSense service allowed developers to earn revenue by displaying text and image ads in their applications for iPhone and Android.
And according to Opera, mobile search has been growing rapidly on a worldwide basis over the last month.
