While Google holds on to its search lead, where search engine optimisation (SEO) is likely to go in the future is still unclear due to continuing online developments.
Such is the assertion of Chris Crum, who in a post for Web Pro News, said that the recent Microsoft launch of Bing had captured significant attention, meaning it was difficult to determine what future search market shares would be.
Furthermore, social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter have also altered the SEO landscape, he added.
Mr Crum noted that social media marketing allowed good content to be shared with a wide audience.
"The links within the social networks may not boost your rankings, but they can lead to more links outside of them. Either way, it is added exposure," he stated.
And Twitter may certainly be a tool that businesses wish to focus their social media marketing campaigns on.
Nielsen recently stated that the social networking tool had seen the time people spent using it increase 67 per cent between May 2008 and last month.
