While measuring the return on investment of search engine optimisation, pay per click and media buying is simple, it is not so easy when it comes to social media marketing, one industry commentator has claimed.
In a post for Search Engine Watch, Liana Evans explains that there are a few rules when it comes to making this measurement for social media.
The first, she states, is knowing the audience which is "vitally important" as it shows firms know how their users function within social media, helping them to better measure success against marketing.
Monitoring the user activity of website forums and message boards can also be valuable, Ms Evans adds, as can measuring activity on social media networks.
She concludes that businesses should set themselves some "reasonable goals" in order to make their social media marketing campaign a success.
SEO Book's Aaron Wall recently claimed that building trust can play an important role in social media marketing efforts.
