Yahoo! to update search?

Yahoo! may be set to update its search service this month, it has been suggested.

Senior member at Webmaster World BillyS claimed he had noticed some "pretty big shifts" on the website recently and that while typically he saw 12 per cent of the site's traffic coming from Yahoo!, the figure was now closer to 18 per cent.

"Since this post, the results reverted back to prior levels. This is the second time this has happened to us - a rather large rush of traffic from Yahoo!, then it disappears," he stated, adding that this could be a sign that an update is on the way.

Commenting on the post, Search Engine Roundtable's Rusty Brick said he checked his own traffic from Yahoo! but that it did not appear to have shifted either up or down by that much of a margin.

However, he added that Yahoo! Japan recently updated, which may be a sign that its other sites will go the same way.

Meanwhile, SEOmoz's Tom C recently commented on Google's local search service and said that while it was out of date and "riddled with spam", it was still "absolutely" worth it.
