In search engine rankings, a well-known brand is likely to rank as the number one link and get around half of the click-through traffic, but this leaves another 50 per cent of users for lesser-known brands and firms to attract, one sector commentator has claimed.
Distilled's Rob Ousbey, in a blog for SEOmoz, states that many websites already appear to be getting creative in order to boost the number of clicks they can achieve without simultaneously improving rankings and he offers a number of tips for doing so.
He suggests using "compelling language" by placing sales-orientated text adjacent to the first occupancy of the target phrase or keyword.
And he adds that search engine optimisation should be boosted through the placing of keywords in text to demonstrate the high relevancy of a site.
Mr Ousbey also advises that companies ensure their site is useful by listing it at Google Local as this would increase the trust of the user.
In a recent blog for SEO Book, Peter D claimed that trust was useful in gaining a competitive advantage.
