The new search engine Wolfram Alpha is already monetising its results after launching just yesterday (May 18th), one sector commentator has claimed.
In a blog for Search Engine Land, Matt McGee states that an advertisement for Lenovo's ThinkPad has been spotted on a page that appears to present simple maths-related queries.
"At first, the ad only appears as the small box in the right-side column; when you mouse-over the ad, the larger pop-over ad appears," he claims, adding that the advertisement was only present the first time he ran the query.
Mr McGee states that having a major sponsor within days of launching is "priceless".
He adds that "it's anyone's guess" what other advertisements Wolfram Alpha will concentrate on selling for.
Wolfram Alpha is a new type of search engine which answers queries with specific answers, rather than by providing a list of related links, such as what Google's search facility does.
