Today (May 18th) marks the launch of new search engine Wolfram Alpha - a tool that is claimed to be able to answer questions put to it with specific answers, rather than a list of links.
The facility - developed by Wolfram Research - is made up of a large library of algorithms and will also act as a research facility and graphing calculator for users.
In an introduction of Wolfram Alpha by Stephen Wolfram he explains that the tool is built on new knowledge-based computing and aims to make all systematic data immediately computable by anyone.
In a Search Engine Land review, Chris Sherman said that although comparisons will be inevitable, the new search engine is not a potential "Google killer".
He notes that it is "very different" from any of the search engines he has used in the past.
"Even beyond impressive, the words that best describe the experience of using Wolfram Alpha are fun and enchanting," Mr Sherman notes.
He advises users to check out all of the examples given by the search engine in order to correctly structure their queries.
