Robots have always had a presence on social media marketing sites and networks such as Facebook, according to one commentator.
It was reported last week that researchers from the Interactive Robots and Media Lab at the University of the United Arab Emirates have created a robot with its very own Facebook profile.
The Ibn Sina robot was created by Dr Nikolaos Mavridis and his colleagues in order to bridge the gap between robots and humans.
Commenting on the news, Rachel Hawkes, co-founder and editor of Social Media Portal, said that while the robot sounded interesting it was nothing new.
"Other social networks have allowed individual products a presence almost since inception," she explained.
Ms Hawkes added that Facebook recently made the change to allow companies and organisations to have their own page, which is similar to an individual user's profile page.
This meant that a robot user was the natural next step for the network, she concluded.
