A new era of search could be waiting on the horizon and may end up having an impact on search engine optimisation.
Wolfram Alpha is a search service that is set to be released later in May. Developed by Wolfram Research, it is made up of a large library of algorithms and will act as a search engine, research facility and graphing calculator.
In a blog for SEO Book, Peter D explains that it could end up either changing the internet forever, or on the other end of the scale, simply provide another useful research tool.
It differs from other search engines by answering specific questions, rather than returning a list of pages.
To date, a demo has been released to some online reporters.
CNET's Stephen Shankland and Rafe Needleman said that they found the facility "compelling, if limited".
"You need a clear mind to take advantage of this service ... it's picky about syntax and in the pre-release version we tried, if you got a query wrong ... it wouldn't offer you much in the way of help to refine the query," Mr Needleman stated.
