Google has launched its new tool Profile Results in an effort to boost its people search facilities.
The tool will allow users to more efficiently filter search results to find those that directly relate to them or the person they are looking for, rather than having to search through links referring to someone of the same name.
For almost two years Google has allowed people to create their own profile and this service has now been expanded outside of the search engine's boundaries.
Search Engine Land's Danny Sullivan claims that this is a way of people being able to claim their own identities within Google's main search results.
However, in order to appear users must build their own Google profile page.
Up to four profiles will then appear in search results and Mr Sullivan states: "The nofollow attribute is not used, nor do I see other blocking, so potentially anyone can use their Google profile for link-building efforts. I suspect that nofollow will come down the line."
Google also recently launched its new Google News Timeline lab which allows users to scan the news using an AJAX interface based on chronological order.
