Google Change Sitelinks

Google has confirmed that it has changed the way sitelinks appear in its search results.

Software engineer Doantam Phan and Raj Krishnan, product manager, explained that until now, sitelinks - the links to specific pages within the searched-for site - have only appeared beneath the first result.

However, the search engine will now post the links in a single line beneath additional search rankings, even those which have not claimed the top position.

Up to four sitelinks will now show up above the URL, instead of their former position in two columns.

The pair inform webmasters that this will now mean sitelinks will appear for pages on their websites where they previously had not.

"Just like regular sitelinks, one-line sitelinks are generated algorithmically and the decisions on when to show them and which links to display are entirely based on the expected benefit to users," they added.

However, with the use of Webmaster Tools, a site owner can still block a page from appearing as a link for 90 days.
