Businesses starting to Tweet

Businesses are increasingly turning to Twitter to aid them in their social media marketing by using the tool to talk to their customers and gather feedback from them on the services and products they provide, one expert has claimed.

However, Tim Houghton, managing director of New Media Intelligence, said that while many small firms in the UK had embraced Twitter, many of the larger companies had yet to do so, unlike in the US where "almost all" large technology businesses were utilising it.

"If they've been launching something or they want to speak to their customer base they will use Twitter to do so," he added.

Mr Houghton explained that, just like with corporate blogs, Twitter was a way for firms to build dialogue with their customers.

A recent Reuters article by Alexei Oreskovic revealed that Twitter is taking a "much-anticipated" first step in attempting to transform its popularity into revenue by offering certain customers an expanded range of services.
