Happy Birthday Twitter

Twitter celebrated its third birthday on Saturday (March 21st), prompting one commentator to list the possibilities of the power behind the social media application.

In a blog for Search Engine Journal, Loren Baker said that Twitter had become the number two ranking referring site to the technology resource over the past three months.

He added that as well as allowing him to stay close to friends, family and former colleagues, Twitter had resulted in three new advertisers for Search Engine Journal and one search consulting client.

"Twitter has broken past the online barriers and into our daily lives," Mr Baker asserted.

It now remains to be seen what the future holds for Twitter.

In a recent TV interview with US network PDS's programme the Charlie Rose Show, chief executive officer of Google Eric Schmidt denied the search engine had any short-term plans to purchase Twitter.
