It seems as though more people are Tweeting everyday and some recent figures are leading to the suggestion that the social media search tool is on its way to surpassing traffic to Google Blog Search.
In his blog Micro Persuasion, Steve Rubel claims that Twitter traffic is due to overtake that to Google's blog, with the site currently enjoying 1.35 million visitors per month compared to Google's 1.38 million.
And Twitter itself has claimed that research from comScore shows its traffic was up 55 per cent in February compared to the previous month - although there is not yet an official release for this data.
However, Heather Hopkins, in a blog for Hitwise, notes that the majority of traffic going through Twitter heads to a Google website, although this data does not include YouTube which came in seventh after sites including Facebook, MySpace and Yahoo! Mail.
Writing for Search Engine Land, Matt McGee comments on the rise of Twitter, stating: "The growth of Twitter Search ... suggests that Twitter is moving into a different realm, somewhere between social networking and search."
This, he adds, could perhaps be seen as the bringing together of the best of both worlds.
