Large companies are increasingly turning to search engine optimisation (SEO) marketing to boost their business, one commentator has suggested.
Mark Jackson, in a blog for Search Engine Watch, claims that this could either be a product of firms looking at more efficient ways to market themselves on a budget or it could be due to a natural evolution in marketing, with a move towards digital forums.
"These larger websites have all of the natural elements that search engines look for," he explained.
Mr Jackson added that big companies put a lot of money into developing quality online content and have partners and vendors who are willing to link to it.
This means that all large brands have to do is build a website that is "remotely search engine friendly and institute some basic best practices for SEO and they'd enjoy the benefits".
However, such companies and smaller businesses alike may wish to take care to avoid stumbling into the trap of damaging their brand with the wrong keywords.
Search Engine Land's Laura Centore said keywords selection was "paramount" to driving the right traffic to a website.
