In a recent television interview, the chief executive officer of Google has stated that the search engine firm has no plans to purchase social media site Twitter.
However, although Eric Schmidt, appearing on US network PDS's programme the Charlie Rose Show, denied any short-term plans to buy Twitter, he added that this was because the prices were still high, claiming that Google would "wait that out".
"It's unfortunate, I think we're in the middle of a cycle. Google is generating a lot of cash. And so we keep that cash in extremely secure banks," he explained.
Mr Schmidt went on to note that the YouTube application and the DoubleClick acquisition which the search engine firm carried out in recent years had proved to be "phenomenally successful".
Commenting on the interview, Search Engine Journal's Loren Baker stated that although Mr Schmidt had denied plans to buy Twitter, his answer had been "extremely vague", meaning this could be just the beginning of the story.
