The black hole of Twitter

People across the world may be lapping up Twitter and enjoying the micro-blogs of both each other and the rich and famous, however, it is just a tool, according to one sector commentator.
SEO Book's Aaron Wall claims that Twitter is responsible for stealing links that would otherwise have occurred on the "real web" through the hard work of online marketing such as search engine optimisation.
These links rank high on Google - he points to the term 'superbowl' of which Twitter search is currently in the top ten of Google's rankings - but are replaced with no follow links.
Mr Wall asks how big the black hole will grow and how long it will be before spammers start exploiting it.
His comments follow a blog by Seth Godin who notes that Venture Beat has stated that Dell claims Twitter made it $1 million (£711,779).
"That's nuts. Did the phone company make Dell a billion dollars? Just because people used the phone to order their Dell doesn't mean that the phone was a marketing medium," he said.
Rather, Mr Godin suggests Twitter is a connecting medium.
