Google Analytics JavaScript brittle

The JavaScript used to tag website's with as part of Google Analytics is "brittle", one commentator has claimed, a point which "really bugs" him.

SEOmoz contributor Stephen T explained that aside from this issue he really liked the tool as the interface was simple to use and the information was easy to interpret.

He added that he wished that less of the reports used sample data and that it would be "nice" if points in the data could be labelled to cross-reference with search engine optimisation activities.

"Most JavaScript for other analytics providers ... they set up the variables required to identify the account and the other information about the page in JavaScript before they include the external JavaScript file," Mr T noted of his issue with the Google Analytics tool.

However, the value of web analytics should not be overlooked.

Search Engine Land's Matt McGee recently stated that using some form of analytics now could put businesses on a firm footing for success in the future.
