Will Google take Mayfair?

If all of the search engines were sitting down to a game of Monopoly then Google would currently have hotels scattered across most of the board, but will the group ever get into a position where it absolutely monopolises the markets?

Ben Camm-Jones, news editor at Web-User Magazine, certainly believes that Google will continue to grow and argues asks how, when a firm has such a global business, it can be effectively regulated.

"They'll continue to experiment and explore different areas as they have always done. The web develops quickly and Google will be at the forefront of this," he adds.

Mr Camm-Jones notes that some people may already hold the opinion that Google is monopolising the search market and that further down the line some countries may launch anti-trust cases against it, such as those involving Microsoft.

According to Hitwise, Google search properties accounted for 87 per cent of all UK searches for the four weeks ending May 31st 2008 - a 12 per cent increase on the previous year.
