Search engine optimisation (SEO) is a tool that can be used to make quality publishing business model profitable and it is a mistake to think it is used simply to "temporarily promote garbage".
Such is the assertion of SEO Book's Aaron Wall, who was once again responding to the recent John Dvorak article for PC Mag, in which he likened SEO to snake oil.
Mr Wall stated that he was "sad" to see that some people had said the piece was good and that the majority of SEO tactics were not "seedy or shifty".
"[SEO] can be done effectively or ineffectively. It just depends on how healthy the target market is, who is doing the work and how much they care for the project," he said.
Mr Wall went on to note that a solid SEO strategy could mean the difference between a strong company and one that no longer exists.
In an earlier article he had explained that, unlike John Dvorak, professional SEOs did not need to lie and "pull sleazy tricks" to get hits.
