Gmail drops search web option

Google has removed its search web option from its email service Gmail, it has been noted.

Writing on the online pages of Search Engine Watch, Frank Watson noted that the search engine made the move silently and questioned whether that was the reason for the tool being "so buggy" yesterday (February 11th).

He added that everyone he spoke to about their Google connection had claimed it was "on and off" all day and it was that news that had led him to realise the web search button was gone.

Speaking directly to Google, Mr Watson said: "Guys I know you are trying to cut back but why even bother. I use it a little but was that link causing that much in hosting? Or do you just plan to spam me with what you think I might like."

Last month, Google also encountered criticism when it began to redirect iPhone users away from the optimised iGoogle page to the standard mobile version of the search engine website, leading some to revolt on the forums.
