Is the SEO versus Google battle over?

It has often been suggested by those working in the search engine optimisation (SEO) industry that Google either hates or penalises people utilising the practice professionally.

However, Scott Allen, writing on the online pages of Web Geek, notes that the search engine simply has a job to do, which focuses on setting the guidelines for websites to abide by, in order to keep spam out of the index.

"The truth is that they don't hate search engine optimisers, but what they don't like are spammers and those who are a little too creative, shall we say, in their methods of trying to get sites to the top," Mr Allen asserts.

He added that Google was now taking steps to reverse the impression it may have given about its opinion of SEO and had published a list of basics on the subject for beginners.

However, while there may be no battle between Google and SEO, the same cannot be said for the relationship between Yahoo! and bloggers.

Yahoo! has suggested that bloggers were misguided in their opinion about its auto-optimise sponsored search accounts, but Search Engine Roundtable's Rusty Brick said this implied bloggers were liars.
