Yahoo Appoints New CEO
Yahoo, the 2nd largest search engine behind Google, has announced the appointment of Carol Bartz as their new CEO.

This comes after a 2-month long search to replace the outgoing Jerry Yang, who resigned at the back-end of last year following the collapse of deals with both Microsoft and Google.

Joining from Autodesk Inc, aged 60, Bartz is certainly a veteran of the technology industry, being described as a "no-nonsense leader known for developing a clear focus". Certainly something that Yahoo need then if they're to make up any ground on Google.

How could this affect the search industry? Well, it's too early to call that, but the next 6 months should be interesting and it'll be worth keeping an eye on Yahoo's developments.

In the past few days, Yahoo have announced that their Content Network in the UK and Germany is being shut down, on March 31st, and this could be the first of many technical changes after Bartz's appointment.

In her own words, she aims to get the company "some friggin' breathing room" so they can "kick some butt."

There's also rumours that the deal for Microsoft to buy-out Yahoo, or certain parts of the company, could be back on, in their bid to compete with Google in the online space. Now that would be interesting!

For the full low-down on Bartz, her past and more of what's expected, check the original article from Yahoo! Finance.
