Google has in recent days started to redirect iPhone users away from the optimised iGoogle page to the standard mobile version of the search engine website, leading some to revolt, in news which may interest those concerned about how this will affect their search engine optimisation.
The Google forum was soon filled with worried iPhone users voicing their confusion over the changes, to which one of the search engine's spokespersons Paul stated that because people hit iGoogle from different models of handset, the group wanted to ensure they all saw the same version.
He asserted that "most or all" existing content would translate over the standard mobile version, with the exception being any gadgets that were incompatible with most mobile browsers.
However, Search Engine Round Table's Rusty Brick noted that this only fuelled the backlash.
Forum user ktigger2 said: "None of my existing content translates well to the mobile browser. How about giving us the option to choose how we want to view it - like we used to be able to do?"
Rusty Brick explained that he now believed Google would have to consider putting things back to the optimised iPhone version, which would mean maintaining an iPhone version.
