SEO to become a priority

The new year is set to see many of the world's larger companies making search engine optimisation (SEO) a real priority in their business operations, one sector commentator has predicted.

Jill Whalen, writing on the online pages of Search Engine Land, said that this was something she expected would also grow in 2008 and looking back at the last 12 months she feels this did occur as such firms realised the value of SEO.

She added that greater SEO educational opportunities also emerged with a number of smaller conferences and seminars held on the topic.

Ms Whalen stated that these trends would continue in the new year, noting: "Those companies who understand that social media marketing can't be faked, will reap huge benefits from their participation, but many companies will still not quite grasp this concept."

And she asserted that online reputation management would become more important than ever over the next 12 months.

Meanwhile, a discussion thread on Webmaster World sees one user stating that after redesigning their site they were enjoying top rankings on Google, which moderator Minnapple describes as the "honeymoon period" which can be expected to last 20 days.
