Anchors away

One sector commentator claims that he has recently come to some "interesting" conclusions after conducting testing around internal and anchor text.

Writing on the online pages of SEOmoz, Randfish explained that search engine optimisation was always challenging to quantify but that he feels confident in his findings.

These include his assertion that anchor text has "very little" impact on the homepage and that modification of such text appeared to have a minimal adverse rankings effect.

He adds that excessive internal anchor text linking or manipulation can incur an automated penalty from Google.

By removing such automated links, the Google crawler positively amended its rankings on the next search, Randfish notes.

Finally, he states: "Adding internal links from many important pages does provide ranking benefit, but it appears not to matter whether those links contain optimised anchor text after the first few."

Randfish explains that there may be a limit to how much anchor text value can flow from a single site back on itself.

Meanwhile, in search engine news the Associated Press has claimed that Google has released an undisclosed number of its contract and temporary employees - which may be indicative of the economic climate.
