The number one reason listed by one sector commentator as to why pay per click (PPC) has enjoyed strong growth to become one of the best online marketing channels is high return on investment (ROI).
Writing on the online pages of Search Engine Journal, Brian Carter said PPC was one of the "most profitable" advertising and marketing mediums.
He added that on average, ROI from AdWords was five times stronger than other marketing vehicles.
Furthermore, Mr Carter explained that PPC gave businesses and websites instant targeted traffic and could generate significant sales "within weeks".
However, he went on to advise: "The disadvantage of starting a site with search engine optimisation but without PPC is that traffic can take months to ramp up to significant levels."
Mr Carter concluded that PPC also branded a company while selling its offerings.
Meanwhile, Jerome Touze, co-founder of social networking community website WAYN, has said that social media could be useful in advertising the 2012 Olympics.
