Businesses should aim to design their websites in a way that gets consumers excited about the brand they are offering, one sector commentator has claimed, advice which may also be used to improve search engine optimisation.
Thomas Herbert, product manager at Hostway, said that online marketing was all about keeping a consumer on a website and making the content engaging.
He offered the example of clothes retail sites which now provide close-up pictures of the garments they sell in order to give the customer a better look.
"You've got to provide the content that will allow customers to see your product as close as you can and also to try and introduce them to other products and get them excited about your brand," Mr Herbert concluded.
According to The Deloitte Christmas Survey 2008, there has been an increase of 50 per cent in the number of people planning to buy some gifts online this year.
