Does social media translate organically?

One sector commentator has claimed that while his clients understand how important link building is to organic search engine optimisation (SEO) rankings, many are unwilling to consider social media as part of this process.

Writing on the online pages of Search Engine Land, Michael Gray said that this was because they did not feel it was worth the "time investment" or that the quantity or quality of links will have an impact on SEO.

However, he explained that he felt social media links were most effective when used for mid to long tail keywords, that getting such phrases into the Digg title was "crucial" and that rankings gained from social media "stick".

Further news which may highlight the potential resource of social media is that Facebook is now growing by 60,000 users a day.

According to Marketing Pilgrim's Taylor Pratt, the social networking website hit the 140 million user mark in recent days.
