Websites that have in the past used blackhat techniques to improve their search engine optimisation (SEO) are increasingly turning to whitehat methods instead, according to one sector commentator.
Writing on the online pages of Search Engine Roundtable, Rusty Brick explained that at the recent Search Engine Strategies Chicago show, this may be because practitioners of the two techniques have a better understanding of each other or it may be because the lines have become blurred.
He added that he was fairly certain that Google's Matt Cutts had claimed that more and more blackhats were deciding it was "best to go whitehat".
"I think the most important thing is that Google is more detailed about what is allowed and what is not allowed. Clearly there are forms of content delivery and redirection that [are] allowed. But four years ago, that was a mystery," Mr Brick explained.
Meanwhile, Search Engine Journal's Dev Basu has advised that SEO is included within the design process of any website, rather than waiting until it has already been created.
