Social media - the people's choice

Social media has been described as the People's Choice Awards of the internet, by one sector commentator - a US ceremony where the public votes for their favourite films and actors of the year.

Writing on the online pages of SEOmoz, Rebecca explains that many online professionals today are happy to criticise social media websites and claim that they are the reason why web content is not as good as it was ten years ago.

However, Rebecca disagrees, saying that because social media is designed for the mainstream, in general people go there looking for "general crowd pleasing stuff".

"That's the beauty of the internet - it's a comprehensive resource created by the people, for the people," she concluded.

This comment may lead some businesses to make plans to tap into this resource through social media marketing when it comes to promoting their products and services.

Meanwhile, SEO Book's Aaron Wall has noted that Google is expanding in all directions, while many of its competitors are downsizing.
