Some companies may have found in the past that they came high up Google's ranking pages in terms of search engine optimisation (SEO) but may now be realising that these rankings have dropped.
An article on the online pages of Axandra explains that this may have been caused by one of three reasons.
The first is that if any changes have recently been made to a site's web pages, Google will temporarily downrank it, which the writer notes is nothing to worry about as a firm will regain their old or better rankings in time.
Another reason may be that other web pages by competitors are better and the solution to this is to optimise web page content for keywords and attempt to utilise better inbound links.
The final explanation for why rankings may be lower is that Google may wrongly believe that spam elements are being used on a website.
Axandra's writer concludes that the solution to this is to file a reinclusion request to the search engine if a penalty has been applied.
Meanwhile, Search Engine Journal's Ann Smarty has noted that businesses should take care to ensure that their internal web pages are not in competition with each other.
