Many companies are not taking full advantage of the natural search marketing strategy, a web analytics provider has revealed in a comprehensive report that evaluates the search engine optimisation (SEO) trends of the Fortune 500.
The Conductor study notes that previous research has found 80 per cent of all user activity, or clicks, occur within the natural search environment.
However, according to SEMPO, only 11 per cent of firms' aggregate search budgets are put towards SEO techniques.
Chief executive officer of Conductor Seth Besmertnik said: "The most forward-thinking marketing organisations have made it a priority to organise their natural online search marketing efforts and their results really stand out."
He added that the results should act as a "call to action" to such businesses to focus more on the efforts they are making in SEO.
In total, just 28 per cent of the Fortune 500 registered a significant natural search presence.
Meanwhile, research published by e-consultancy has found that the web analytics market in the UK will grow to £78 million by the end of 2008.
