Building on web architecture

Building and developing solid web link architecture could increase search engine optimisation, it has been noted.

According to the Axandra newsletter, there are five internal linking tips that can improve search rankings.

To begin with, it advises that many search engines have difficulty indexing Flash, JavaScript or even image menus and so firms should endeavour to use simple text links to their websites.

In addition, firms may wish to make sure that the web pages containing their most important content are never more than one click away the original index page, as this is likely to increase rankings.

The article also suggests that businesses use descriptive links that include keywords, rather than one that reads "click here", as it allows a search engine to put the link into context.

Finally, the newsletter recommended that companies create a site map to link to all of their most important pages and check the validity of their HTML codes to ensure there are no errors.

Meanwhile, last month, Google noted that when it comes to achieving high search rankings, "inbound links are important but content is even more important".
