Google has expanded its search engine optimisation (SEO) capabilities by examining the text in scanned documents.
Chris Lake, writing on the online blog e-consultancy, explained that the search engine now uses Optical Character Recognition technology to search through the content in PDF files, which were previously rarely seen in search ranking results.
However, Mr Lake noted that this is unlikely to make too much of a difference to a company's SEO, other than that there may now be a few more links, as Google will be able to more easily convert scanned URLs.
But he added that as there would be no anchor text, the quality of these links would not be "amazing".
"If your organisation has archived forests of scanned documents then by making them available you may present Google with some extra content," Mr Lake concluded.
Meanwhile, SEOmoz's Randfish has claimed that the company's most popular web analytics tool is the Rank Checker, despite the fact that he did not believe it was one of the most valuable SEO tasks a business could pursue.
