Searchers aren't finding what they're looking for

The majority of internet users are unable to find what they are looking for on their first search, a recent survey has found.

Writing on the online pages of the Yahoo! blog, Tom Chi, senior director of product management at the search engine, said that a poll conducted by the company had found that 85 per cent of respondents were not successful on their first search.

In addition, 83 per cent of individuals wanted value assistance with their searches, which may interest businesses seeking to improve their search engine optimisation (SEO).

Last October, Yahoo! launched Search Assist, a tool which aims to guide users intelligently to the answers they are looking for by displaying suggestions or related content which may prove helpful.

Mr Chi claims that engagement with the technology has increased six-fold since its launch and that Yahoo! will continue to improve its usefulness.

Meanwhile, writing on the SEOmoz blog, Randfish has suggested that businesses take advantage of vertical content listings on websites in order to enhance their SEO.
