Utilising a website's vertical content is one way of earning links which many businesses have overlooked, according to one sector commentator.
Writing on the online blog of SEOmoz, Randfish comments that there are "dozens" of vertical directories and Web 2.0 portals which provide references to content areas such as web-based tools, white papers, audio and video feeds and downloadable software.
He advises that businesses that offer free software, maps or geographic listings, podcasts and videos should take advantage of websites that provide directories by posting their links.
"Even if you don't have the right kinds of content today, by spending some time and effort expanding into areas like downloadable content, whitepapers, videos, podcasts, software and feeds, you can earn significant link juice from some worthwhile sources," Randfish noted.
He concluded that businesses should not just look into the examples he had provided but also examine the possibilities for all of their content.
Meanwhile, Clickz Network's Enid Burns has claimed that featuring a blog on a website may have a larger impact on search engine optimisation (SEO) and user purchase, than if an advertisement is posted on a social networking site.
