The key to flickering Google

In the first few days when new content shows up on Google rankings it may briefly flicker, something which is common knowledge in search engine optimisation, according to one sector commentator.

Ben Hendrickson, writing on the online pages of SEOmoz, said he was left concerned after a project he had spent several months working on disappeared from the search engine results page.

While he admits that he does not know why this happens, Mr Hendrickson noted that he could make an educated guess.

"Sometimes there is a brief gap between pages falling out of a smaller - but quicker to build - index and when a larger - but slower to build - index is finished getting rebuilt with those pages in it," he notes.

Meanwhile, Yahoo! turned on its Citysearch and Zagat SearchMonkey applications for users last week.

According to the Yahoo! search blog, the company's search is now set to be more "intuitive" as well as faster than it was before.
