Eating Into CPA and Producing Some Tasty Sales

With the busy Christmas period on the horizon, Thorntons were in search of a digital agency that could help them maximise their online performance and, in the process, tap into a growing trend of consumers shopping online.

Marketing Manager for Acquisition, Thorntons

hômejames started working with Thorntons in October 2010 to maximise their PPC activity ahead of Christmas; their busiest and most demanding sales period.

The hômejames team delivered exceptional results with online orders surpassing expectations within three months. Additionally, the CPA was reduced by 38% year on year, when compared to previous agencies' efforts.

As December began, a 46% increase in sales was seen compared to the previous week in addition to a 15% decrease in overall CPA. The icing on the cake came in the final seven days before Christmas when the tough weekly targets, set by Thorntons at the start of the campaign, were exceeded by 34%.

This achievement also contributed to the 20% uplift in conversion rate.

"A huge pat on the back"

Thorntons also achieved a strong share of voice throughout December by dominating the 1st position on top 'chocolate' keywords against key competitors. This was accomplished through a combination of smart campaign organisation, constant insightful recommendations and careful budget management.

The Marketing Manager for Acquisition at Thorntons, claimed "hômejames deserve a huge pat on the back for the hard work put into the campaign and the excellent results seen."

hômejames continue to work with Thorntons into 2011 with more of the same overachieving results on PPC, along with exciting online opportunities to drive towards the objective of double digit online growth year on year.
